DumontJanks creates ideas, landscapes, strategies, and buildings for campuses and cities. Our goal is to make planning engaging and data informed, and our designs strive to restore mutually supportive relationships between landscapes, buildings, and communities.

DumontJanks was founded in Ricardo and Gregory’s shared belief that elegant solutions to complex problems can only be forged through a rigorous systems-based approach that meets problems on their own terms, strips away extraneous noise to reveal the problem’s essential nature, and builds consensus on implementable action, through the application of high-energy engagement, thoughtful analysis, and bold design.

Before founding the firm, Ricardo and Gregory spent a decade collaborating at a leading planning and design practice, where their work redefined campus planning, moving from static, map-based plans toward dynamic frameworks built to support decision-making in complex environments; and created stunning and functional landscapes in campuses and cities. Clients included Bates College, Case Western Reserve University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern University, Purdue University, the University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas at Austin, Utah State University, and Vanderbilt University.

Since 2015, we've sharpened that practice at DumontJanks, prioritizing client-focused services as only a small firm can. Our work spans strategic, academic, financial, capital, district, space, and student-life plans, academic medical centers, private-sector mixed-use development, community and neighborhood development plans, and master and framework plans. As a testament to our client relationships, we often implement planning ideas through landscape architecture built work.

Clients include Auburn University, Brown University, Georgetown University, Georgia Tech University, Michigan State University, The Ohio State University, Texas Tech University, the University of Chicago, the University of Florida, the University of Rochester, the University of Virginia, the Washington National Cathedral, and state and community colleges across the country.

Our track-record for innovative planning has also led to invitations from different state systems for our founders to help with their hardest planning challenges—including the University of Nebraska System, the University of Texas System, University System of Georgia, University System of New Hampshire, and the first comprehensive capital strategy for all of Massachusetts public higher education.

All told, Rick and Greg have collaborated with about 200 institutions and communities.
